August 19, 2008 by sosouth

You give us one we’ll give you one.

Recently we got permission from Swishahouse, Boss Hogg Outlawz and O.G. Ron C to sell downloads of their entire back catalog. That’s more than a hundred titles. Many of these titles are already available on SoSouth but as you may know some of these are very hard to find. The labels don’t even have them. All we need is a flawless CD-R copy sent to the address below or if your good with this sort of thing you could send us MP3s through email or ftp link (MP3s must be 192kbps (VBR) tracks must be numbered and should have track names if available).

For every title you send us we will give you one free download of your choice (your choice from the list of downloads we already sell). see download list (nearly 600 titles to choose from)

Historic Vote (Register before Oct 4)(Oct 6 Texas)

October 1, 2008 by sosouth

Hurricane Ike - Aftermath

Voting is a privilege and a luxury not offered in some places. We should use it. It’s that simply.

It’s just like when your mom told you to eat your supper, “Don’t you know there’re kids starving in China”. Some people in this world still live under dictatorships and have very few of the choices we have. But not voting is much worse than throwing away good food, especially this election year.

Every election I can remember someone says “this is the most important election of our lives”, so I’ll not repeat that here but certainly this election will have the most historically significant results in several generations worth of elections. A black man or a women will be voted into the White House. This is your chance to say you were part of a history making decision.

At the risk of sounding like a political nerd imagine for a second you had the opportunity to vote for JFK, Lincoln or even George Washington. How cool would that be. You could say you were a part of something that made a real positive difference to the World. I think this election is that chance for us now. I’m not going to miss it.

As messed-up and corrupt as our political system can seem we are still so lucky to be American. You can bet there are a million people who would trade places with anyone of us to have the rights we have. And for those conspiracy theory people who think it doesn’t matter who wins and that all candidates are all just puppets of some secret powers you really have to ask yourself what string pullers would have used a black man to insure they would get the White House? This is the real deal, no shills here.

Will either of the candidates do what they say once elected? Will we be better off next year than we are today. Only time will tell but if you want to be able to complain about it you have to vote now! I can’t promise that your candidate will win but I can pretty much guarantee that you will be pleased with yourself that you exercised your constitutional right to VOTE! It feels good.

Ike

September 13, 2008 by sosouth

As we brace for Hurricane Ike I’ll take the opportunity to ask everyone who can to make a small donation to the American Red Cross (even $5 helps). In 2001 our store was directly affected by Tropical Storm Allison with two feet of water in our offices. With the help of The Red Cross, FEMA and family we were back on our feet in days. We don’t expect anything that drastic for us this time in our new location but we know many of our neighbors on the South Coast could be devastated.

We have a back-up plan and do not expect service to our customers to be interrupted in any way. Our offices are in central Houston but the website is hosted on servers out of town.

I’ve posted some pictures I took of Hurricane Ike damage from the general area near the SoSouth.com office. If you have some you’d like to share please feel free to post them in the “Dirty South” photo group on Flickr.com

We don’t have it?

Is there something you think we should have? Would you prefer we carried more mainstream titles? Maybe you think we should stop carrying anything that is not from the Texas or the South.

More mixtapes? Less mixtapes?

Please let us know if there is anything you think is under-represented on SoSouth.

Please include as much information about the artist as possible like myspace address or other links. We’ll contact the artist.
