We remember. (DJ Screw)

I did not know DJ Screw but what he did in the music industry had a major impact on the direction of my life. My little CD store was nothing special until we started carrying grey tapes back in 96 or 97. Virtually all Houston rap fans knew about Screw and how he slowed down the music and sold these mixtapes. At the time Houston had some underground stars and UGK was already on Jive Records but Screw imortalized the south with his mixes and layed the foundation for the scene that would eventually take over both coasts. He was underground magic, the kind you can’t replicate, the kind that you won’t see again. Although his life ended 8 years ago, his legacy continues to get stronger each passing year. SoSouth.com owe a great debt to DJ Screw and we are proud to continue working with his family, Papa Screw, Big Bub, Doug, and the rest at the Screwed Up Records as we mark the anniversarry of his passing on November 16, 2000.

We recently made a deal with Screwed Up Records that allows us to sell downloads of the Chapter CDs. The first five (of more than 200) are available now from SoSouth.com!
